Academics
Course of Study
No matter the career you are headed for, being able to work with individuals effectively from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds will impact your success. Learning about Tropical Production Systems in Brazil and interacting with Brazilian faculty and students will help you develop skills to work with individuals from a culture different from your own.
Learning Objectives:
The academic program will mainly consist of 45 hours of lectures and technical visits
- Over view of tropical agricultural regions
- Biodiversity of agricultural regions
- Animal production in the tropics
- Natural resources
- Biomass and bioenergy production systems
- Management of agricultural landscape
- Water management on biomass production
- Food technology on tropical biomass
- Sciences applied to biomass production
- Social issues on rural environment
- Tropical bio-based economy
At the end of the two weeks, the groups formed by students will give a final presentation in which they will compare the practices between their home country and those used in tropical conditions.
Course Credit
Students will enroll in 1-3 credit hours through the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) at UNL.
Eligibility
This program is open to junior and senior undergraduate UNL students in good academic standing.
Accommodations and Other Arrangements
- INTERNATIONAL AIRFARE: All program participants will fly to and from Brazil as a group. Deviations from the group itinerary will not be permitted.
LODGING in COUNTRY: Participants will stay in double occupancy hotel rooms, within walking distance of restaurants and shops.
MEALS in COUNTRY: Meals are included in the program price.
TRANSPORTATION in COUNTRY: Participants will be picked up from the Sao Paulo airport by University of Sao Paulo (USP) staff.
COMMUNICATION & CONNECTIVITY: Students will have access to WiFi at most of the hotels in country.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED for TRAVEL: All U.S. citizens will need a valid passport to participate on the program. Deadline to upload passport to MyWorld: March 11, 2016. A visa is required to enter Brazil for U.S. citizens.
HEALTH AND MOBILITY:Recommended immunizations/medications per CDC (as of November 1, 2015) include the Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines. CDC recommends that you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot. Please be sure to check the CDC for additional recommended immunizations.
